350

Post by shadzar »

Did anyone have anything near them that took part in this today or going to take part in the remaining hours of the day?

Sadly it would have taken me half a tank of gas to meet at one of the nearest places to me participating, and that would have been counter to the entire purpose.

For those not knowing what I am talking about, visit this website.

Just make sure you are IN the house when you burn those, please. ;)

I never heard about the 350 thing until now. I did help a friend move yesterday, and that involved driving back and forth with a couple vans, and a few cars.

We did wind up carpooling in one minivan for a meal after we were done however... a feat made less environmentally friendly since we travelled less than a mile for said meal (we were cold dammit).

Fuck that shit.

Seriously, I've riding a bicycle as a primary means of transit, swearing at shop clerks who try to waste my time with their inferior bags and voting / occasionally campaigning for people who have promised to raise the gas tax and build more bike paths and support adequate rail and mass transit infrastructure for longer than some of the posters here have been alive.

It has made not one single whit of difference.

And as I lack both the motivation and resources to mount the global armed revolt it would take to effect actually meaningful change, I now say: Fuck that hippy crap.

I mean, I live inland, 700+ feet above sea level in a temperate rainforest with multiple independent sources of fresh water and an ecosystem that has already weathered some of the worst pollution of the past century. So I'm going to enjoy laughing my ass off when the hurricanes do to Savannah and Manhattan what they've already done to New Orleans. I mean, it's just less snow for me to shovel.
"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

Pittsburgh is that special band where it's actually more snow for you to shovel.

More energy in the system means that arctic storms reach farther.

We went camping. So we did drive a hundred and fifty miles, and listened to very loud music blaring over a generator.

But our lights were solar powered and we didn't use any campfires.

I got a flat tire. Karma, I guess.

 That is a heck of a first post in a thread. Karma for what? Not attending one of the 350 meets?

It was probably some of the "garbage" people throw at the roadside that punctured it since most of the stuff thrown away shouldn't be sitting out as trash that can be reused: nails, glass, any metal objects, etc.

You cannot blame yourself for the flat tire with no context as to why it is karma. :)

That is fucking hilarious. Is there anything Frank can't predict ahead of time?

Lots of things. For example, I had various predictions for what the latest wave of Wizard's Forums overhauls were supposed to do, and I can't confirm or deny whether I was right, because when it came time to unveil it, they crashed and stayed down or a while, and they've left them in the emergency repair state for some time.

Also, vajazzling. Did not see that coming.

I don't think any of us could have seen that coming, Frank.

I'm pretty sure I saw it in Blade Runner.
